My Rogue Trader asked my a series question: can he have a harem. Now i'm asking you guys that question if yes...

1.) when should i say that's too many women (30?)

2.) when should i say that an endeavor (dark eldar?) and

3.) when just to say no (12>?)

I personally have no problem with any character wanting a Harem. In fact, in my first game the RT got BQ crew improvements in the form of a shipboard brothel. It was once the brig. Punishment aboard that vessel became serving a term in the brothel as the free option.

I guess it depends on how much detail they want to play. If they just want a bunch of floozies and sycophants to hang about, I don't think there's any real reason to go into much detail about them.

It's only slaves. I say no to just about everything, but even I would only shrug my shoulders and say 'go right ahead'. Life is cheap.

...Of course, the basic whores he'd get for free would still only have Fel 30 and Trade (Prostitute) trained. Anything fancier than a slovenly trull and it's an acquisition test. Maybe this is a good time to bring out the old Random Harlot Table.

It's just a harem. The nature of the harem might cause issue and be worth discussing, and some of the women or crew members may take issue with possible slavery, but ultimately, in the context of the universe and the nature of rogue traders, it's not particularly over-the-top.

Just roll with it. The time to stop is when the player(s) start creeping you out.

My rogue trader in my current game is still looking for a catgirl world.

Is that

a) Book of Erotic Fantasy?
b) FATAL?

Either way, it disturbs me. And it disturbs me a little extra that you have this lying around.

Yeah that book. ;)

But yeah, you are talking about a person who can level worlds, own worlds, and all that, so a little harem seems like nothing, so long as it doesn't distract from the rest of the game, or make anyone uncomfortable. Hell, it could be a humorous RP opportunity if one of your other players/characters, say a righteous priest, or any woman (sorry if that seems sexist) who DOESN'T approve, and they can argue about it in their off-hours. Better (to me) could be if someone did a bad job of checking her over, and she's part of a Genestealer Cult, or something. The options, both for silly pointless, and for some really decent, or terrifying role-playing are prevalent.

I support this, provided that in your harem you have a Gene-Stealer, a Slaugth Infiltrator, a Slaaneshi Witch, a Callidus Assassin, an A.I. facsimile and maybe one or two "normal" humans just to spice things up. You then only offer your harem to visiting dignitaries that you don't like very much.

I must admit I fail to see the problem.

In the very first RT I ran, the female (female character, female player) RT had a mixed-gender hareem.

For obvious purposes, but also practical when you're invited to a social function and expected to arrieve with a partner.

Yeah, I can totally see a person on par with a Rogue Trader having the equivalent of a Companion (from Firefly) in their employ. You don't even need to be sleeping with them; just another set of eyes, ears, and a person who is skillful in the parlours of people who throw such parties, and why only have one? You never know what sort of party it'll be, and some of your entourage might need dates, too, the kind of dates whose loyalty is tested, and who fit into these parties. As much of an unfocused Rogue trader's stuff should be schmoosing it up at parties, making friends and contracts, getting to know the big movers and shakers, as traipsing through some dusty tomb, or exchanging volleys with the local light cruisers. This isn't to say every RT can't do without, but sometimes, even with all that money, and all those guns, it's still a question of who do you know, and how much do they like you? Some of the best, rarest things you'll ever get aren't a question of money, but of disposition, and of course reputation.

Kind of wondering if anyone will actually say "no", and what legitimate excuse they might give.

Ah, the Good Old Days of AD&D- absolutely no rules for jumping over stuff, which came up constantly, but detailed charts of what kind of prostitute you might bump into...

Hrm. On the subject at hand: I think it would be appropriate to make the RT make regular Toughness tests, at a penalty equal to the number of harem-girls (i.e. maintaining a harem of 10 women requires a T-10 test), or gain a level of Fatigue from exhaustion. If this condition persists, it could cause morale penalties among the crew- who wants to take orders from a guy who can't satisfy all of his 'wives'...?

I say having an Harem might cost Profit Factor; all those woman needing satisfaction in terms of fancy useless trinkets and shopping spree when at the closest civilized port more than just being tired; I mean he's the boss of the harem, he gets to pick who pleased him when and how.

LOL.  Our RT has a fanatical personal guard (Mixed sex troops from a planet that he helped fight off a Chaos Space Marine raid, all members of a Death Cult that now reveres him).  A few of the women in the guard act as his 'ladies'.  This was the guard's way of keeping the RT from getting caught with his pants down.  Even now that he has a potential long term option (A certain Imperial Navy Captain that shows up in several books), they tend to keep others away from him by ensuring that he always has an attractive female guard member or assassin on his arm.  The RT has just kind of rolled with the idea, at least after his personal guard informed him that they were going to assassinate any woman who tried to sleep with him they considered a 'threat'.
