Well on my way to getting a Librarian Chaplain.  I've got all the stats, all I need is half a rank and the xp req and the GM's permission.

I feel vast potential for future Funny Stories material :) What Chapter did you choose? Did you stay with your Space Shark?

I was forced (forced i tell you!) to play my Black Templar alongside an Imperial Fist Librarian.  I found the whole situation...unsettling.  fortunately, i was a kill marine, so i could break off and do my own thing.

Yeah, I really enjoy the fluff I've created for the Carcharodons. I didn't pick them for this purpose but it allows me some leeway with the rules.

I mean there are psyker Chapter Masters and dreadnoughts.

Something no else seems to have mentioned is that the introduction of Librarian Dreadnoughts is a relatively new addition to the TT game, and it was an addition that did not sit well with many long time fans.

Additionally, the usage of those is limited to Blood Angels and their successors, if memory serves right. Weirdos.

And on the topic of psyker Chapter Masters - for those, only the Blood Ravens come in mind as example, and look how well it worked out for them.

Psyker chapter masters?  Soul Drinkers, mate.  Of course, it didn't turn out too hot in that example.

Generally speaking, the Chapel is the guardian, keeper and trustee of the spiritual well-being of the Chapter, while the Library is the guardian, keeper and trustee of the lore of the Chapter.  Per the Codex, never the twain shall meet, because A) Seperation of powers and B) specialty allows excellence and C) making psykers (known to be corruptible) responsible for caring for the spiritual well-being of others is asking for trouble.

Of course, my favorite (official, loyalist) chapters are the Space Wolves and the Black Templar, so Rowboat Girlyman and his book can go jump in the Eye for all I care.

Just from a mechanics aspect, I'd think that a Chaplain and Librarian on the same sheet would bring you too many skills to purchase.  Yes, there is some overlap, but your Librarian might wind up being a one-trick pony.

Depends on how you look at it. Any advanced specialisation will consume some XP which otherwise could be used for maxing out basic advancement tables. A Libby/Chaplain combo still brings a competent character to the game, especially since both rely heavily on close combat, willpower and lore, so I think the overlap is quite significant. And, from a crunch viewpoint, you don't even have to buy any Chaplain advancements after spending  the obligatory 3000 XP to get it, if you so decide. You can grab your skull helm and crozius, and be on your merry way buying more Librarian advances.

Don't misunderstand me, I oppose the whole idea, but it can work, especially with a Prognosticator - you stack up all the divination powers in the world, combined with a bunch of forbidden lore, and you're ready to go. If, and it is a big if, the GM allows it, of course.

That's just spending a bunch of XP for a force field.  Deathwatch Chaplains have a duty to fulfill.  They'd at least need to take some Chaplain-only lore skills.

A force field and a power weapon, for extra bonus melee dual-wielding....

Yeah, I'd want them to be able to do both jobs, since they have both jobs.

That goes without saying, if one of my players ever petitions for anything like this, he's in for a world of pain. But face it, subtlety is not really Deathwatch's thing, it's all about good-natured but unapologetic power gaming.

Like a Librarian Chaplain Champion Dreadnought, for extra bonus dual wielding, tankiness and psyker bull?

:/ :| :) :D

I'm currently playing a Black Templar Assault marine/Chaplain on the Ultima Thule/Ark of lost souls adventure. Its been tough going, after having most of my power armour eaten away by acid that force field has been a life saver.

I really want it for the job that comes with it.  It's already one of the things I do already, I would also like access to the Lore skills.  I can just Smite my way to glory and force sword stuff to death as it is but those tasty Lore skills and limited to Chaplains.

Which boggles my mind.  Lore should be available to anyone who works in the Librarium.  That's what they do.

Depends on the Lore, really. And equally kinda belongs in the Armorium with Techmarines, too.

Hm.  Depends on the lore, I guess.  Chapter secrets - Usually the Chapel.  Tactical, xenos and warp lore - Usually the Librarium.  Tech lore - almost always the Armorium.  History - Little bit of all three.  Unless I'm under a mistaken impression, which could well be.
