This one seems great but not set up for the bigger ships.

 http://www.amazon.co...t?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Anyone found a great system or setup that works for everything? That is expandable?

Looking for comments and suggestions.

Thanks :)

I originally got this Plano box for my ships:

http://www.amazon.co.../ref=pd_sim_t_9

I carefully cut the plastic modeling out of the packages so I could lay the molding over the openings and put the ships inside for stability, and still have room underneath for bases, etc.

Then, for Wave 2, I upgraded to this:

http://www.amazon.co...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

which is basically two of the same case plastic melted together.  I had to cut out some separators to make room for the large bases, but I have enough room for everything plus some Wave 3 ships (although I'll have to remove a Falcon to fit in a Shuttle).  Also, the white covers will bend if you make them too heavy and open them all the way without something to brace them.

Core/Wave 1: 4 X-Wings, 3 Y-Wings, 8 TIE Fighters, 3 TIE Advanceds; Wave 2: 2 YT-1300s, 3 A-Wings, 2 Firesprays, 3 TIE Interceptors

Wave 3: 3 B-Wings, 3 TIE Bombers, 3 HWK-290s, 2 Lambda Shuttles; Imperial Aces: 2 Royal Guard Interceptors, 2 Elite Interceptors

Huge ships: 1 Tantive IV, 2 Transports, 2 alternate X-Wings

Wave 4: 3 E-Wings, 6 Z95s, 3 TIE Defenders, 3 TIE Phantoms

I was recently considering storage as well.  I'm thinking about going with a Plano toolbox like this one:

http://www.amazon.co...s=plano toolbox

It has detachable mini compartments to hold tokens; a divided tray for cards, and templates/range ruler; the second tray for small ships; and the bottom compartment for big ships.  Anyone know of any other considerations I should have in mind before purchasing?

I was going to make my own, purchased all the assorted stuff, and it came to like 70 bucks..  Then i found the battle foam Shield bag that I am getting custom made for only like 30 bucks more!! AND it has plenty of space for the wave 3 ships and ALL my other ships based on a 100 point squads with a few extras.. it was also kind of fun using the configurator at the battle foam site..  bottom line i went with the battle foam as it is designed for it, vs trying to cobble something together.. just my 2 cents, however being the cheap person that i am if i had all the stuff needed to make my own case i would have... i just switched when i did a cost benefit analysis and a realistic appraisal of my cobbling skills..lol

anybody in the Sumter S.C. area???

I currently own the Plano 5231 Double Cover Stow N Go Organizer, Porche Red:

 http://www.amazon.co...14/ref=pd_ybh_8

which is overpacked -- no room for my Wave 2 collection.

The plan is to get something from BattleFoam: http://us.battlefoam.com/ at Gen Con Indy this year to fill the need to store my collection -- including the upcoming Wave 3 ships.  As a matter of fact, the BattleFoam booth will be the second stop in the Exhibition Hall (FFG will be my first stop that weekend.  :)).

I've got a nice Battlefoam bag for my 40K army, but I really like the KR Multicase X-Wing sets. The smallest box holds everything except for the big ships, so when I'm playing a squadron of smaller ships I can just carry aroun the lunchbox sized case. When I want to bring more I just the other one the same size, but they also make a double-size box that will hold it all.

Before i got into X-Wing, i had a Motorpool from http://www.saboldesigns.net.

What i've been doing is just acquiring new foam inserts and customizing them to my needs.  I realize the Motorpool itself is very large so it does a good job of containing my entire collection, and should do so for at least another 4 more waves.

When i need something smaller to just take what i am gonna use for the day (and not the entire collection), the foam gets put into something smaller that's more portable.

So far so good...

I have the Army Transport Mark II and the Platoon from http://www.saboldesigns.net/home.html

The Platoon can clip to the Army Transport Mark II and become one big case. (Kind of like Devastator of the Transformers or Voltron)   :P   http://www.saboldesi...124/1449339.htm

I have plenty of room to expand my fleet as more waves come out. And you can keep on stacking on more Platoon cases.

I just wish I could fit my CR-90 in them.

The Plano trays are the best.  At present, I have a model 732 and I have the tray bottoms lined with bubble wrap with sections cut to fit over my ships.  Keeps everything in place and is fairly inexpensive.

What layout did you go with for your ships in the foam?  I think my current setup is ok for the moment, but i'm always looking for a better way...

I plan to go back to this for my tokens and I have a 36 compartment flambeau (Plano like case) for my ship ID tokens.

Very nice...that seems much better then my current configuration.

I agree on the ship ID tokens in that separate compartments for each number would be better, and probably much cheaper then "making" one with a foam plate.

I just have to say, brilliant idea for your ID tokens.  I need something like that for my ID tokens.

Just brilliant.

I only carry four or five sets of the ID tokens; the rest are in a plastic baggie for use whenever I have a mega battle.  I think I've only ever used 4 sets of ID tokens at most for 100 point games.

I'll add another vote for Battlefoam.  Their ships tray is spectacular.  The accessories tray has some surprising problems, like card slots being too small...  but it wasn't anything that a bit of X-acto surgery couldn't fix.  I recently got their Pack 432 to carry it, and have been very impressed with the bag and trays both.

I have all of my ID tokens in the same compartment, but I've banded them together in pairs by number so its easier to find the ones you want. I did the same thing with my Target Lock tokens.

Cost for me was the main one. I can buy a piece of pluck foam for 8 bucks, and customize it how I want. The kr stuff is pre-molded, and much higher in price.
