I don't think Timescape will fly with most fans, but i could see/favor it if it might be yet another alternate 'inlay' for the Inner Region, because seriously, where else would it go, unless you all play on the floor - - or a ping pong table (hmmmmmm...)
At any rate, I echo the need/desire for "something different", but could see different ways to solve the dichotomy with those who want the Forest because the 3rd or some previous edition had it.
Please note that 'spaces' on the Main set board include 'hills' which are used on at least one other board.
So this could be the fate of 'woods' or 'forests' since they are SPACEs on the main board too.
"The Forgotten Realm" (or the Hidden Realm) or... whatever.
But it has woods spaces with the same properties as the main board and for any other characters who can make advantage of them. Perhaps other 'spaces' from the Main or other boards can be used for similar or new effects as well?
Some characters can teleport or move quicker to these similar spaces, but there could be other effects too.
A new graveyard-type space, The Ancient Cemetary, which when a certain roll happens, "would draw all face-up Spirits" to that space (there's a card like that, but we could come up with a twist of some sort)
I envision another tributary or stream of the River, but maybe its not a perfect square around, maybe it goes diagonally through that board and represents another mode of travel (with it's limitations or perils) for players
The Boss would be the Lich-form of the Ancient Wizard who seems to have caused all this and maybe other features could tie some elements together better (DRAGONs?).
Beyond the board I've thought about other elements, such as creating neutral or sorta helpful NPCs, like "the Queen" who needs safe passage to the Castle, or other court rivals who can either monkey up the works or give advantages.
But some players don't want that. The Fate/Dark/Light thing is something on many minds too. I see it being an opportunity to bring in Chaos/Order Elements, rather than the good-evil-neutral spectrum.
