Does anyone have an idea where to find a pdf file of the quest guide from the 1st edition? That way I can try to implement those quests as well in the conversion road to legend
Descent First Edition quest guides (those that contained the layouts of the dungeons) were never made into PDFs, as that would have allowed someone to "play the game" without paying for it.
Quite frankly, you would probably need more than just the RTL Quest Guide, as there were other mechanics that were involved (things like the overland travel board, dungeon cards, rumor cards, etc., etc.).
My idea was more or less to implement all descent quest into a Road to Legend conversion. Also this would mean streamlining the rules as was done in 2nd edition.
At the start of a game, the players choose a certain Main Quest (like the Shadow Rune, Labyrinth of Ruin, Shadow of Nerekhall, the evil plots mentioned in Road to Legend,....). This avatar becomes the Overlord and the finale of the approapriate quest becomes the finale quest. To reach the final quest the heroes have to explore a certain amount of dungeons/quests before the overlord reaches the appropriate hometown of the heroes and after the heroes level up enough.
At this moment i'm thinking 6-10 ACT I encounters, then 6-10 ACT II encounters and then the area for the final quest becomes visible on the map.
Off course I'll keep in mind the settlements (visiting market, blacksmith, temple, tavern,...), travel board spaces with either random events, random outdoor encounters (theses will be the encounters with outdoor tiles), dungeons(these will be the encounters with dungeon tiles) ,... All of these can be randomised or into an overall Main Quest.
Rumor cards will be played when visiting a settlement that has a tavern. For a certain amount of money the hero can learn of a rumor and this spot will be indicated on the map.
