When players meet the end game requirements of a quest, is that round immediately over or do they get a chance at the remaining search tokens etc, remaining on the board?

Asking cause my players are complaining they are not getting enough gold for newer or better equipment. But I'm nearly convinced I'm playing it by the rules.

Yes you are!

The exact end of a quest depends a bit on the wording in the rules. Something along the lines of 'as soon as...' ends the quest immediately if the condition is met. There are other conditions that for example say 'if thisandthat is the case at the end of whoever's turn' which would give the heroes a little more time for looting.

IT IS ESSENTIAL that heroes have to set priorities whether to go for the objectives or take the time to get all the treasure.

If it is a relief for them you can tell them, that they will most likely get enough treasure over the course of a campaign.

How much treasure that really is, is up to them (as I already said). The scout treasure hunter/thief classes are especially nice for groups who like a bit more loot from the average quest.

As said, it depends on the quest.

If the Hero's win condition is "If So and So Bad Guy is defeated", for instance, the quest ends immediately if the Bad Guy is defeated - the heroes cannot do any more searching.

Generally, the only time you will be able to continue after the condition is met is if the check is made at the end of a turn; otherwise, the quest/encounter ends immediately when the end condition is met.

Some quests also depend on obtaining something, so if you hold out on obtaining that item or condition, you can not only search, but heal, remove conditions, rest.

Rare moments, but great when they happen.

I have to correct you here, sigmazero. You have made an understandable logical error.

The heroes cannot defeat the bad guys because heroes are the bad guys themselves. If you don't believe me go and ask poor Splig.

Splig deserves every cut, scratch, and bruise he gets, the greedy pig :P  (And I usually play the OL!)
