Do any OL's out there actually use secret rooms? I haven't tried them yet but they appear very one sided in favour of heroes?

My heroes won't touch them.  Their time is usually way too precious to waste.  It's kinda sad, really.  I wish the devs had made them more enticing or found a better way to integrate them into a quest.

Secret rooms tend to favor the heroes heavily, we use them. It depends on the quest, but usually the heroes will willingly give up winning an encounter for the extra loot.

My heroes have only explored a room once, and got manhandled by the monsters. They have avoided them since, and have been pressed for time anyway. I like the distraction, and that it's a search card worth 0 gold, which is a big deal.

My heroes avoid them as well. Time and movement is too important to them.

I think just from the range of responses here you can see that they create strategic tension. I wish Whitewing's statement wasn't so true, many of the newer quests have such lousy rewards that the heroes don't really care if they win them.

We use them, but players never go into them. Time and movement, just as with everyone else.

I like them, they can definitely favour the heroes, but they can also definitely favour the overlord too ! I find them to be well balanced.

As overlord, I love secret rooms. At some point not too long ago, I was playing death on the wing encounter one against A four hero party, including silhouette, she was at 5 out of 10 health and some where in the middle, so my friend does her heroic feat, enabling her to search all four tokens, and move halfway down the canyon. The first card is secret room, she decides to explore it, it is cursed toom, and she fails 3 tests and dies! I laughed so hard.

Treasure Hunter

Survey (at any time) to reveal the top 3 cards of the Search deck, and re-arrange them in any order seen fit.

Lure of Fortune (after defeating a monster) to optionally arrange the card on the top of the Search deck to the bottom.

Delver (while searching) to reveal the top 2 cards of the Search deck, acquiring 1, and placing the other back on the top or on the bottom of the Search deck.

Certainly there's a 50% chance of revealing a monster or an attribute test for each Search 'figure' in the Secret Room, and even a smaller chance of rolling a successful attribute test roll, this is certainly one exploitable way to acquire Treasure Chests, and thus Shop Item cards.

Your definition of Greed over Need. I personally don't take much interest in some of the Classes' starting equipment (Disciple for example). Why not chance to score a greater item than a Yellow & Blue Surge to Stun one handed weapon.

we oftenly use them, sometimes it's better to lose a quest and have a big stuff, sometime not.

But it's a great adition, even if situationnal

I am playing 2 LoR campaigns. In one I am one of four heroes. In the other I am the overlord.

The campaign in which I am a hero, our treasure hunter basically ensures that a secret room will be available. If we are pretty sure we will have an extra turn or two before winning we go into the secret room. If not, we skip it. Our overlord for this campaign is relatively inexperienced so we are having an easier go at it.

The campaign where I am the overlord - heroes haven't had time to go into one yet (halfway thru the campaign). If they were to use a secret room I would view it as more opportunities to draw overlord cards or threat tokens.

Let me put it this way: the addition of secret rooms can only favor the players, because they can always choose not to visit them when they show up, and the card replaces the nothing card. At worst, the result is nothing.

I do this! I can't see the logic of removing the "do nothing" card.

Mer? We play with the nothing card for that very reason. Besides, it makes no since that the nothing card is not in the deck particularly when the heroes think they have the time to search a room.
