The fact that an Interceptor squad won a 38 person regional is very significant. Feel free to ignore some Store Championship results if they don't fit your ideas about game balance, due to the more local nature of the Store Championships. But these Regional results are a pretty big data point.

I'm honestly surprised, since it seems to fly in the fact of the traditional Interceptor wisdom (ie, use them with Push the Limit). So the Interceptor is still viable, if maybe proven to be a bit more viable than originally thought. I don't think many were using Alphas. All the more respect due to the surprising nature of the squad.

I have messed around with a similar list in practice at home, its the most firepower you can have with 6 TIEs. Stealth on one of the Interceptors vs Howlrunner makes a lot of sense, because when you rotate your squad you end up with 2x academies + a stealth interceptor in front, and Howlrunner and 2 naked interceptors in back. Keep the high value / glass cannons more protected.

It's still just one data point but it's an interesting one. The stress economy doesn't really affect non named Interceptor pilots, only turrets do.

I got smoked by that Tie Swarm in the top 4 of that regionals. Interceptors are fine they punch hard and evade equally as well.

And I smoked that interceptor squad with Biggs, 3x Blues w/adv sensors....but got tabled by your list in the top 8 :-/

  • Event Date: May 4th 2014 (Australian date)
  • Venue Name: The Hobby Matrix
  • Location: Adelaide, South Australia
  • Attendance: 12
  • Final Cut: Top 4

    1st  - TIE Swarm

Mauler Mithiel - TIE Fighter + Veteran Instincts
    5 x Academy Pilot - TIE Fighter

    2nd - Nitoryu (Two Swords)
Howlrunner - TIE Fighter + Swarm Tactics
Mauler Mithiel - TIE Fighter + Squad Leader
Black Squadron Pilot - TIE Fighter + Draw Their Fire
2 x Scimitar Squadron Pilot - TIE Bomber + Assault Missiles + Seismic Charges

    3rd - Chef's Special
Krassis Trelix- Firespray 31 + Heavy Laser Cannon + Proton Bombs
    Howlrunner - TIE Fighter
Mauler Mithiel - TIE Fighter + Swarm Tactics
    Winged Gundark - TIE Fighter

    4th - Rebel Alliance
Dutch Vander - Y Wing + Ion Cannon turret
Biggs Darklighter - X Wing + Stealth Device
    Rookie Pilot - X Wing
Gold Squadron Pilot - Y Wing + Ion Cannon Turret

I don't have the other lists sorry.
I came second. 1st and myself both had byes in the first round as we had both won a store championship. We were matched up it the 2nd round. I won that round tabling the swarm in 4 turns. 3rd round I played 3rd place and won by 17 points. He had a chance to win with his final shot but a bomber got both his evades to get me a win. 4th round I played 4th place guy and won. The final four was determined and I had to play the 4th place guy again and won again. I lost the final match vs 1st place (obviously). :P

Thanks Alarum, I added those squads. Top 4 is probably OK for a tournament of 12 players, although if anyone can track down the next 4 for Top 8 I'll certainly add those as well. Most everybody would have gotten prizes there, that's pretty cool.

Isaac had Howlrunner with determination, 2 acadamey pilots and 3 alpha pilots in his tie swarm.

I played him the first round. I was running Vader/Fel/Phennir...

Facechecked Vader into the swarm right off the bat (thought I could clear... but... big mistake) and he got slaughtered. I had him down to 2 alphas and howlrunner when I messed up Phennirs placement and got him killed... And then right after that I flubbed a 5 d roll on Fel (4 focus results, 1 blank. Had spent my token) and he was oneshotted.

First ever tournament game! Was a ton of fun! (Also lost to a Janson/Wedge/Luke opportunist murderfest.)

I know everyone handed in a list before the Comp to the TO  so I will see if I can get a hold of them before he throws them out.

Thanks Xwingtoman! I assume there was a final cut to elimination? Top 8? Top 16?

Or were there so many attendees that it just went by points?

Ironic that there was only 1 Imperial squad in the Top 8, but it won.

Top 16 - Khyros
Hobbie w/ R3A2 + Flexhette torps
Biggs
Green w/ PTL
Gold w/ ICT

Wait, so that was you who I played in round four? (I had Ibtisam with three Rookies.) I think we should have worn our FFG screen names on name tags, haha

Indeed.  I was the one that managed to neutralize 37 points of your list and still end up losing :)

A couple of things to Note. FFG has a set of parameters that must be followed when running a regional. there must be a cut, and it is based upon players attending. They actually have rigid rules for running this which is actually very nice. It will keep all of these events running in a similar fashion.

So here is where we stand for getting data on week 1:

Results checklist ordered by week

Fully completed results for Top 16 have strike through.
Details of partially completed results in (parenthesis).

Week 1:

May 3, 2014. The Hobby Matrix. Fairview Park, SA, Australia (Top 4, 12 players total)

May 3, 2014. Gamers World. Dublin, Ireland (no report)
May 3, 2014. Wargames Workshop. Milton Keynes, United Kingdom (Top 8)
May 3, 2014. The Game Shoppe. Bellevue, NE, United States
May 3, 2014. Mr. Nice Guy Games. Monroeville, PA, United States (Top 4)
May 3, 2014. Montag's Games. Pearland, TX, United States
May 4, 2014. les Forges de Lumière. Isle Jourdain, France (no report)
May 4 2014. La Carte Chance. Paris, France (no report)

we still do not have...

  • The complete report for the Monroeville, PA game.
  • A report from the Dublin, Ireland game.
  • Either French reports.

Otherwise we seem to be doing well.

May 4 2014. La Carte Chance. Paris, France

We had 44 players at the tournament, I don't have all the lists but it came down to my swarm :

Holwrunner with squad leader

Dark Curse

Backstabber

4 Academies

against FrereSender's Biggs walks the dogs:

Biggs, 2 Daggers with AdvS and a rookie

I lost with him having a dagger on 4 shields.

Mine was the only swarm in the top 8 (and the only Empire squadron for that matter).
