Hey guys,

I'm a new player (I've bought this game last month, and it's my first board game purchase) and, after playing some games I was wondering: What is the soundtrack you listen to while playing EH?

I like Seanan McGuire's "Dear Gina" during set-up.

It's been a long time, Gina, since you came home,
And things are getting stranger every day.
They're saying Johnny fell, but I'm not certain.
I think it's better that you stay away.

We were five of us against the world,
A secret superhero team,
But now I'm just one frightened girl,
And when I sleep, I hear them scream...

I went to Sarah's funeral on Sunday;
They did her makeup cunningly, it's true.
To look at her, you'd never know what happened.
I know it wasn't suicide. Don't you?

We were five of us, just having fun,
Too innocent to know the stakes,
But what you do can't be undone—
You can't unmake your own mistakes...

Gina, I don't think that I can write you anymore,
And Gina, when you go to bed, be sure to lock the door,
Gina, we were five until you left, and left us four,
And Gina, we weren't strong enough without you...

It's been a long time, Gina, since you told me
"It doesn't matter—nobody will know."
I still remember how you used to scold me,
How Sarah cried the day you had to go.

We were five of us, and it was you
Who said "I know a better game,"
But how could we have had a clue
You'd run before you'd share the blame...

I know when David died you sent a letter;
His mother gladly gave me your address.
I think it's time you learned a little better
The nature of this "silly little mess."

We were five of us, you in the lead;
I think you knew just what we'd done.
You didn't care, left us to bleed,
And now I think you'd better run...

Gina, I don't think that I can write you anymore,
And Gina, when you go to bed, be sure to lock the door,
Gina, we were five until you left, and left us four,
And Gina, we weren't strong enough to doubt you...

Gina, I'm the last one they can find here.
Gina, you were right to stay away.
Gina, I made sure that your address was very clear,
I wrote it plainly on the wall so your new friends would know the way,
And I think before the sun comes up, they'll likely come and play.
Gina, darling Gina, there's not too much left to say...

It's been long time, Gina, since that midnight—
Who knew that just eight days could be this long?
I really hope there's time for this to reach you,
I hope you understand that you were wrong.

We were five of us; I've buried three.
You thought that you could get away.
You little *****, it's time to see
When you raise hell, there's hell to pay...

Gina, I don't think that I can write you anymore,
And Gina, it won't matter if you lock and bar the door,
Gina, we were five, and we'll be five forevermore,
And Gina, when you're dead, then I'll forgive you...

PS. I hope it hurts like hell.
Love, Katie.

Last time I played EH I tried this and it fitted quite well within its Lovecraftian theme.:

It seems to me that it is particularly appropriate if you are playing against Shub-Niggurath.

Soundtrack to Frozen is always a winner. We do a song-along as we play, and ending on Let It Go as we defeat the Ancient One makes the victory all the more sweet.

"Hush" and other musical selections from the "Once more with Feeling" soundtrack. Seriously eerie stuff. "They got the mustard out" can give me chills....

I have the soundtracks that came with Last Night On Earth, and A Touch Of Evil that can fit in for a campy/cheesy time. I also have the soundtrack to Alone In The Dark when they had released it on the Wii way back when. All of them can get a really good feel going.

Musica Cthulhiana - The Fourth and Musica Cthulhiana - Fragments are THE best Cthulhu soundtracks out there by far.

Also Carmina Burana is also a nice one to listen to. You have to listen to all of the movements and not just O Fortuna.

I have to admit that until now I have not been aware of any other of his projects.  What do you have in mind - Knaprika or Za Frûmi?

I really like Endvra  :)

I also just found this site by Kevin Mcleod. He does all of his music for free and there is some really really good stuff in there.

Za Frûmi. More folk contaminated, but somehow still enjoyable.

Generally speaking, the whole swedish school of Dark Ambient is particularly good for any Lovecraftian game. Early recordings from Raison d'Etre (Prospectus I and Enthralled by the wind of lonelieness above all), Desiderii Marginis (Seven Sorrows and The Ever Green Tree), or, if you don't mind a voice being added to the melancholic tunes, Arcana (especially the first two albums, Dark Age of Reason and Cantar de Procella).

Alternatively, Brian Lustmord with his The Place where the Black Stars Hang.

I really like Endvra  :)

Thanks for giving it a try :) You could try the whole album Black Eden or, if you really want to listen to something crazy, Dreams of Dark Waters. Dance of Quilielfi or Nailed to the Cross of Pluto are quite... Eldritch in theme.

I like Za Frûmi. In some elements, it reminds me of early Mortiis.

Desiderii Marginis is one of my favorite ambient projects, but it never occurred to that I could listen to it when I am playing EH. Well, I will now certainly try :)

I will also try Lustmord and Raison d'etre - I have heard of them years ago, but never really gave them a chance.

Endura is phenomenal ;)

True. Before the guy lost his mind on EBM tunes :D I really liked his first soloist works on CMI (and the collaboration with Brighter Death Now on Necrose Evangelicum, but I understand death ambient / power electro is not exactly easy listening, so I won't suggest it as soundtrack)

Glad you like them :)

I forgot to mention another not-so-known band that actually is *good*: Sephiroth (and the soloist work of the composer as Ulf Söderberg). You can give it a try with the hyperpercussive Wolftribe or descend in the oceanic rifts of R'lyeh. A really great project now forgotten (and I guess dead, it's ten years of silence, more or less)
