I'm trying to affix one to my X Wing minis.
But since tournament standards say that I can't modify the base, I'm a little stumped.

Any suggestions?

It'd be epic to actually bank the fighters when they turn! I actually had a dream about 2 RGPs escorting a Firespray, worryingly enough.

Attach it to the bottom of the ship itself rather then the base.

I don't believe a peg is considered a base.

Officially you can't modify your ships either =P  Besides paint that is.

Isn't there some language in there about misleading appearances. I doubt magnets make an X-wing look like anything other than an Xwing.

Try and mod it so that the peg in the ship is interchangeable, you can put in 'regular' pegs for tourneys and these fun ones for friendlies etc!

also, are they really called CorSec? No relation to Correlian Security? What a MAD coinkydink.

True but...

No, not really. It just says that you're allowed to paint the ship as long as it isn't offensive. But it also says that the final decision on if something is eligible or not is up to the TO.

It also mentions the size and shape of the base, which wouldn't be changed with what the OP is thinking of doing.

But putting it on the base or on the ship... I can't see a TO out there saying that the ship can't be used.

If a TO told me that magnetizing my ships disqualified me, I'd take my toys and go home. Right after I made bail.

Great ideas guys. I'll get a few and hopefully figure out how to post pics here.

I asked this very question to FFG and got this response in email:

Charles:

The official X-Wing Tournament Rules state:

"Ship bases cannot be modified to alter their size or shape. Weight may be added to a ship base if it does
not alter the size or shape of the base."

Magnets are just fine as long as the shape of the ship's base remains the same. You would be altering the pegs, not the base, so you're good.

however this was just a couple days before the new rules and FAQ were released.

I think it is so funny that people think modifying the ship in odd ways can "DQ" the ship from play. People need to relax.

I agree that certain modifications should be banned. Like if you make the ship unrecognizable from it previous form. However what we are talking about in this thread, there is no doubt as to what ship it is with a magnet on the bottom of it.

A good rule is that if you do any questionable mods, just be sure to have a backup, unmodified ship/base just in case. Otherwise, go nuts.
