Ever since starting this game in december i have had a difficult time finding squads i really liked and that i was capable of flying well. I tried the shuttle with Tie's, Tie's with Bombers, Tie's with Int's, the bounty hunter and nothing really clicked. I'm terrible with formations and i like having at least 4 ships i had trouble with having mixed PS. Then came along Aces and i was drooling to use multiple RG squints. Well that day has come and i love it, i actually managed to go 3-0 tonight in our league start up having faced turrets and a Falcon and even Wedge and the squints came out on top. Thank you FFG. Here is my list if anyone is interested.

15 hull at 3 agility, all PS6. Royal Guards with PtL. Not bad. That's about the same durability as 4 X-wings, but you can dodge arcs. Good to hear you had some success. I think the Royal Guard TIEs might turn out to be the most useful ship in Imperial Aces.

Nice. I ran RG+PTL x4 and had me some fun this week, even taking out double Falcons with 3 Ints standing.

Is adding a targeting computer to the ptl royal guards a good idea? With the royal guard TIE upgrade you can get two mods, so you could still get the extra hull or stealth device. The

i'm still not sure if that title will be of much use. The Interceptor is already a costly ship and adding more Mods of which most imo are overcosted just makes that Interceptor more of a points sink, and to make matters worse i don't think most of the mods are very good. I will admit there were times yesterday where i really wished i could TL instead of Focusing all the time simply because i was rolling a lot of blanks, but i can live with the 4 actions the ship already has.

How are you managing to beat those YTs? Stay at range, boom and zoom, and rotate in healthy ships? Or get in close fast and focus fire?

Two things...

The hull upgrade is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Interceptor.  That one extra point makes them much more durable.

Second, three Interceptors firing at R 2-3 at a YT every round... it's going down quick.  The YT, like the B-wing, gets 1 green die.

PtL insures that the Interceptors are in position and focused.  To stay healthy, take evade tokens when you know you're going to get shot at.

I've gone 4 and 0 against HSF with all Interceptor builds.

With Interceptors, I value being able to shoot and not taking any shots back above taking any sort of enhanced shots (range 1, focus, etc). The Targeting Computer might speed up taking ships out, but ultimately I have to take care of my maneuverability first so PtL will take up those points instead.

YT's are tough. I've ended up trying to block to deny actions or even possibly make him land on a rock, but Han Solo with a Gunner will only completely miss so many shots before my Interceptors start going down. My only hope is to take them down faster than they can take me down.

TC on Soontir Fel is just sick.  You find yourself in position, you take an evade to help defend after you fire, a TL to insure you kill what you're shooting at, and then you get a free focus!  You may or may not need the focus for offense, and if you don't, you have two tokens to help defend you!

I think the TC is solid if you are regularly out of arcs and taking few shots and would be most useful in conjunction with PTL (making your efforts to maneuver into good position more useful). Tossing another upgrade on is expensive on top of that, so should be used wisely and increase the survivability of a key interceptor, like Jax.

Here's a list that includes both options:
Royal Guard with PTL, TC x3
Backstabber.

This leaves you with three points to toughen someone up with a hull upgrade or upgrade a RG to Cowall or Turr, but you would want to use all the points.

I think Jax is, but there's no doubt that PS six on these guys for 22 points is fantastic and and steal at 25 with PTL.

One of the reasons I'm coming around on Cowall is that, while I'm not big on his ability, he's a nice cost for PS 7 and a chance to upgrade to PTL with 27 points.

The Aces have turned the Interceptors into what I thought they should have been in the first place: the best the Empire has to offer.  High PS, heavy damage, and skills that make them hard to hit.  Hull for 3 points is a fantastic upgrade (and better than stealth IMHO) that adds durability.  Thus far, I only like TC on Soonter because of his ability to gain a focus when stressed.  I really want to like Kir, but with no possibility to gain 2 evades in a round his ability does not get used as often as I would like it to.  I also need to spend more time with Lorrir.  Right now, I can't help but think Turr is the better deal at 25 points than Lorrir (23) and Kir (24).

I'm thinking of running a couple of well kitted out Royal Guard Interceptors (+Hull +Stealth +PTL) escorting Jendon in a modified "tank" (+Jammer +Captive +ST321 +Pursuit Lasers).

The idea being to use Jendon to chuck out target locks that the Interceptors then head out to use while tanking it up good and proper to help keep the enemy focused.

2 green with stacked Focus + Evade and just shoot.

Opportunist instead of PtL eh?  I want to like that EPT, but at 4 points its really hard to.
And yes, Jax is amazing!
