Buy cases for each then order ships for the empty slots:

main001.png

following that up by dividing up the tokens into neat orderly rows... Love how my B-Wings and HWKs fit nicely in that tray on the right.

Now if I had only waited to buy these, KR cases now come in different colors, I now want red foam for Rebs and Green foam for Imps. Plus you can get them where the Firespray and Lamba are in the same tray and the Falcon is separate from the Firespray.

So I bought some Litko templates. Was wondering if anyone has tried painting the reverse side to make their numbers stand out. And if so, what paint/color did you use?

5 X, 3 B, 2 A, 2 Y, 1 Hwk, 2 Es, 2 Zs

6 TIE, 2 TIE B. 2 Ints, 1 Adv, 1 Defender, 2 Phantoms

- Sharpie paint pens (black, red, lime, aqua, etc.) to paint the edges of the tokens, including painting matching blue/red target locks the same color

I tried this...but it seems the oil based paint gets soaked into the cardboard.  Did you give it more than one coat?  And/or use something as a sealer before painting the edges?

I just started on my pieces. I bought a pack of 5 colors of some generic brand, one of those was white. After realizing that the cardboard was sucking up color I started doing a white "basecoat" before applying the actual color I want. It seems to go on much better for me.

Imperial: 8 TIE/LN, 4 TIE/X1, 13 TIE/IN, 3 Firespray-31, 6 TIE/SA, 4 Lambda Shuttle, 3 TIE/D, 5 TIE Phantom

I used brushtip sharpies in the standard 4 color pack and they look fantastic after a single coat. Smelled up my gamebox something awful, but that will fade.

Here's the thread he made for it:

I've been referencing this a lot, trying to decide if I want to build one of my own and how, exactly, to go about it. Very cool project and it came out looking really nice, I think.

Two coats.

Also, I highly recommend doing some pairs of target locks in the same color, but different from other target lock pairs. A-B target locks with green edge, C-D with Blue edge, etc.

With all this talk about Imperial Aces, Rebel transport, Tantive IV, Wave 4, or Rebel Aces, I am curious what you guys have done/plan to customize your current fleet.

Are you perfectly content with the ships they way they come out of the box?
Maybe just a repaint?
Or did you order a bunch of stuff from Shapeways just for your scenarios?
What have you done, and why?

For me:
- Repainted a few ships, and touched up a few more.
- Sharpied all the edges of every token, maneuver template, and ship base. Really takes away the cardboard feel. (green tokens get green Sharpie, red get red, blue get blue, and everything else gets black)
b8534a34-0c14-4d61-9ff5-34727d3e4d9f_zps
- Brushed on a bit of rubber cement on the bottom of the stands to help them stick to the table better. (also, it can easily rub off if I ever decide on a different approach)
- Sprayed all of my maneuver dials with varnish. 3 times. Also cut out tiny circles out of card stock to put between the parts of the dial. (Protects them all really well. I don't have to worry about myself or friends wearing the dials down by not using an 'Oreo' motion.)

1e664237-119a-4ea1-814c-8578fdcf8ced_zps
- Being a cheap bastard, bought a yard of fabric from Walmart to act as a 'Star field.'
- Plano case to hold everything.
- Deck Box + card protecters.

ea8a1aa3-7377-4c04-8195-60efc6d8f452_zps

So what about you guys?

What have you done?

On those token edges, did you use the water-based paint Sharpie or the oil-based paint version for them?

Great tip, thanks!

  • Colour coded the ships to their manouver disk: on the ties painted the top hatch different colours - purple, gold, black, grey  and the centre pin of the disks to match. Rebel ships got a full paint job to colour match.
  • Painted engine glow.
  • Custom asteroid field out of volcanic pebbles from a local beach, mounted on acrylic rod and bases.
  • Custom card playmat made from 2 sheets of A1 black cardstock paper from HobbyCraft; airbrushed with some stars and planets.
  • Fishing tackle bag with boxes cut to fit the ships and cards.

Not much in the grand scheme of things really. :(

Maybe I'll pull some pictures together tonight... but

1) Husky toolbox for all of my stuff

20140405_182019_zpse467c14e.jpg

Top of the box

20140405_182031_zpse1f87d63.jpg

Bottom of the Box.

2) 3 stacks of pluck foam for the ships

20140405_182053_zps386d52b2.jpg

3) card box for all the pilots

20140405_182247_zpsee1bdc1b.jpg

4) sleeves for all of the pilot + rule cards

5) side loading card binder for upgrade cards

20140405_182147_zpsabadbd2b.jpg

20140405_182219_zps85d7238a.jpg

Easy to add or remove since they're side loaded.

6) sleeves for all upgrade cards

7) slightly oversized sleeves for damage deck (this way I know it's my damage card because no one else has them in this size sleeve)

8) Custom made (out of poster) boxes for dials + ship inserts

20140405_182401_zpsf211e7e1.jpg

9) Clear coat on dials (just used krylon clear spray)

20140405_182314_zpsca1cd915.jpg

10) plastic washer between dials

11) repainted x wing (x3)

Wedge's X Wing

12) repainted y wing (x1)

13) repainted a wing (x2)

20140405_182756_zpsc9d4236f.jpg

Prototype inspired.  I liked the red/black cannons more than the original art.  I did this like 2 days before rebel aces were announced.

20140405_182814_zpsd21829ec.jpg

Green Squad repaint

14) repainted b wing (x2)

Blue/Orange repaint

Red/Yellow repaint

20140405_182735_zps66952d39.jpg

Yellow is basically only seen from the bottom by design.

15) lighted up the engine of a YT (still WIP, but has kinda hit the back shelf)

20131204_212804_zps1105cdf9.jpg

Still a WIP, I should get around to finishing it at some point.

16) installed magnets on B wing to allow to rotate (x2... the repainted ones)

17) top 8 in 2013 regionals to get acrylic focuses

19) won s2 to get acrylic shields (twice)

20) won s3 to get acrylic stress

21) won store champ to get acrylic ruler (twice but sold the second one)

22) won store champ to get card box (twice) - used currently for LCG, but in my XWM box

23) Traded 1st box to get acrylic TL from S1 kit

24) painted said acrylic TL so you could read them

20140224_1805431_zpse08bf966.jpg

25) used mini hair rubber bands to keep my TL & number tokens together (works great btw)

20140405_182451_zps6eb1a40f.jpg

Front.

20140405_182457_zps544996fd.jpg

Back.

26) made attack/agility decks to replace dice rolls because my girlfriend complained the dice hated her (used them exactly once before she decided to never play again... but they're still sitting with my stuff)

Still to do

Finish painting my rebel ships (2 X wing, all 4 Ys (I want to repaint the one I did originally), 2 A wings, 2 B wings, at least 1 of the HWKs, and both YTs...)

Paint of the bases (this might be the next thing I do)

Weigh the bases (Unsure if I'm going to do this or not)

Paint both FS (thinking one as Jango one as Krassis)

Paint /in & /sa in gray (don't really like the blue... sadly this means every time I buy an imp ship I'll have to paint it)

Top 4 2014 regional to get all of the goodies!

New pluck foam for rebels to include W4 ships

Some sort of external carrying device for transports + corvette

The girlfriend is going to make me a strap for my playmat out of some star wars material she found (it was my valentines present!)

I might spend more time messing with my stuff than I do playing  :(... I definitely spend more time on the forums than I do playing.

On those token edges, did you use the water-based paint Sharpie or the oil-based paint version for them? Great tip, thanks!

I actually just used regular colored Sharpies. I couldn't find the paint ones where I am, and I like the darker colors instead of brighter colors.

Also, Khyros, you make me want to cut out the ship-shapes of the foam I bought...
:D

I've done the same thing with my Target Lock tokens and Number Tokens, but since I have a full set of target lock letters from A to X, I painted the back side of each set black, so there's no confusing a token that happens to be wrong side up.

I wanted a more compressed and less cumbersome storage solution, as I'm mainly mucking about on my bike.
Also, it had to be low cost, because I'm such a cheapskate.

Bought a $35 alu case, a $20 mattress, and started cutting.
The foam area is 41 x 29 cm. Top layer depth is 5 cm and bottom layer is 3 cm.
This case should last me good a while.

dvJc39K.jpg

wGL4XIo.jpg

I also needed a solution for transporting the game mat.
Having it in one hand while biking was getting troublesome.

Bought a $1 pack of velcro tape and $2 worth of beaver nylon.
Cut and sewed this water resistant tube, with materials to spare.

Nice to see another sporting a Specialized. Own a Sirrus myself, and I love it!
